EAST STROUDSBURG – The fifth-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team scored five first half goals to help cruise to a 7-0 victory over Seton Hill on Senior Day at Whitenight Field.
The Warriors (14-3, 8-1) registered its seventh straight win, marking the second seven-game win streak this season. Seton Hill falls to 1-13 overall and 0-7 in PSAC play.
Notables
- Sophomore Amy Supey (14-3) picked up the win after making one save. Supey combined with Emma Valinote and Karlie McClosky for the shutout.
- Senior Celeste Veenstra recorded her team-high ninth and 10th goals of the season. Veenstra was also credited with her second assist
- Senior Hannah Barbush scored the Warriors first goal of the game, marking her third of the year
- Nicole Krozser and Jady van Gils each registered their fifth goals of the season in the second quarter
- Senior Morgan Mesenbrink found the back of the net for the sixth time this season
- Lia Parker notched her fourth goal of the year in the fourth quarter
- Seniors Jordyn Wigglesworth and Helen Bradley, Grace Lesh and Giulia Van der Werff each recorded an assist for ESU
- ESU held the advantage in shots, 42-1 and shots on goal, 28-1
- The Warriors had 21 penalty corners compared to one for the Griffins
How it Happened
1:31 | ESU jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game on a goal from Hannah Barbush. After receiving a pass from Veenstra, Barbush spun to her left before firing a shot that made its way through a number of players before ending up in the right corner of the net.
3:23 | Dribbling up the left side of the field, Wigglesworth sent in a pass to Veenstra, who used her back to shield off the Seton Hill defender before ripping a shot that put the Warriors out in front, 2-0.
13:54 | With a chance to shoot right on net, Lesh decided to dish the ball to Krozser, who was positioned right in front of Seton Hill's Shannon Mccormac. After receiving the ball, Krozser made a quick turn to her right before jamming a shot into goal which extended ESU's lead to 3-0.
15:46 | After an initial shot from van Gils was kept out on defensive save by the Griffin's Abby Giunta, Mesenbrink followed up by scoring her sixth goal of the year to push the Warriors' advantage to 4-0.
19:20 | Carrying the ball in the left side of the arc, Van der Werff sent in a pass to the middle, which found the stick of van Gils, who turned quickly to her right before taking a shot into goal to give ESU a 5-0 lead.
46:11 | Veenstra opened the fourth quarter with her second goal of the game to put the Warriors ahead 6-0. Bradley sent in the ball from outside the arc and as Veenstra gained control, she turned into a shooting position before firing a blast into the back of the net.
51:58 | Parker capped off the scoring for the Warriors with an elevated shot just over the outstretched arms of Seton Hill's goalkeeper to extend ESU's lead to 7-0.
