Warriors Claim Victories in 13 of 14 events in Season Opening Dual Meet at Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University swimming team earned victories in 13 of 14 events on Saturday against Cedar Crest in the Warriors season-opening meet at Rodale Aquatic Center. The Warriors defeated the Falcons by a score of 161-64.

The Warriors opened the 2021-22 season with a victory in the 200-yd medley relay. The crew of Jenna Johnson, Julia Harnish, Sarah Luigard and Emma Billings posted a time of 1:59.07. The Warriors also claimed second place in the relay.

Madison Tafe claimed her first of two individual wins in the 1000-yd free style, besting teammate Ellie Parido in the event.

The 200-yd freestyle was up next, the only event that the Warriors did not claim. Gabby Ciesla took second place with a time of 2:21.17.

Three Warriors took the top three spots in the 100-yd backstroke, with Johnson (1:05.44) taking the victory, while Veronica Ruoff (1:09.13) and Sarah Banksy (1:10.67) followed.

In the 100-yd breaststroke, Erin Brandeburg (1:16.59) and Julia Harnish (1:17.54) took the top two spots. The time for Brandeburg is a new personal best.

Avery Fohring (2:22.53) bested teammate in the Luigard in the 200-yd butterfly (2:25.80).

Emma Billings picked up two consecutive victories in the freestyle, clocking a time of 26.90 in the 50 free and a time of 58.37 in the 100 free. Warriors dominated both of those events, with ESU claiming five of the top six times in the 50 and the top six results in the 100.

Johnson grabbed a win in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 2:21.55, defeating the Falcon competitors by over 15 seconds.

Next up was the 200-yd breaststroke, with Harnish taking a win with a time of 2:48.52.

In the 500-yd freestyle, Tafe earned her second individual win, besting three Cedar Crest swimmers by posting a time of 5:49.78.

The Warriors dominated the 100-yd butterfly, finishing with the top four times. Fohring would be the top finisher with a time of 1:03.12. Luigard (1:05.13), Naihomy Garcia (1:05.13), and Parido (1:09.44) followed.

 In the final individual event, ESU put together the top three times in the 200-yd individual medley, with Fohring (2:24.58) posting the best time.

The meet closed with the 200-yd freestyle relay, as the Warriors capped the successful meet with its 13th victory, with Garcia, Tafe, Nina Marchese and Billings combining for a time of 1:48.39.

The Warriors will open up its home slate next week, when ESU hosts Kutztown and Cal U at Koehler Fieldhouse on Fri., Oct. 29. The tri-meet will begin at 6:00 p.m.
