EAST STROUDSBURG -- In its home opening meet, the East Stroudsburg University swimming team split with Kutztown and Cal U at Kohler Fieldhouse on Friday night. The Warriors (2-1) earned victories in five of the 11 events, defeating Kutztown by a score of 113-69 and falling to Cal U by a slim margin of 103.5 to 93.5.
Sarah Luigard tallied ESU’s first PSAC qualifying time of the season, registering a mark of 4:58.51 to grab first-place in the 400-yd individual medley.
The Warriors also took first-place in the 200-yd medley relay, with Jenna Johnson, Julia Harnish, Avery Fohring and Emma Billings combining for a time of 1:57.09.
Madison Tafe followed with a victory in the 1000-yd freestyle (11:50.87), besting two opponents from Cal U by over 20 seconds.
Naihomy Garcia earned another top time for the Warriors in the 100-yd freestyle, clocking a time of 58.92.
In the 100-yd breaststroke, it was Julia Harnish that reached for the touch pad first, with a time of 1:17.54 to wrap up the five Warrior event winners.
ESU took second in the 200-yd freestyle relay, with the crew of Johnson, Garcia, Nina Marchese and Billings combining for a time of 1:45.97
Other top performances on the evening for ESU include Fohring in the 100-yd butterfly (2nd, 1:03.15) and 100-yd breaststroke (3rd, 1:14.74), Tafe in the 500-yd freestyle (2nd, 5:48.39), Billings in the 200-yd freestyle (3rd, 2:08.08), Garcia in the 50-yd freestyle (3rd, 26.83), Johnson in the 100-yd backstroke (3rd, 1:05.18),
All three teams have a quick turnaround, with ESU, Cal U and Kutztown meeting tomorrow at noon at KU’s Keystone Pool.
