Schooley Lifts Warriors over Bald Eagles with Golden Goal in Double OT

EAST STROUDSBURG -- After 102 minutes of scoreless play, Natalie Schooley was able to find the back of the net off of an assist from Millie Smith to lift the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Lock Haven in double overtime on Sunday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The victory was crucial for the Warriors (9-6-1, 7-6-1) PSAC Tournament hopes,  while the Bald Eagles fall to 5-10-1, 3-10-1 in conference action. The win helped ESU stay on pace with Millersville. The Marauders currently hold a one-point lead over the Warriors for the third and final tournament spot with two games left. ESU and Millersville will meet on Wednesday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The win was the fourth consecutive win and shutout for ESU.  The Warriors are just one more shutout away from tying the program's shutout streak of five (1993, 2014, 2016).

Notables:

  • Both goalkeepers played excellent, with both Mauri Jackson and Kylie Aulman recording 10 saves.
  • Jackson now has fourth consecutive shutouts and seven clean sheets this season. In 56 games during her Warrior career, the Mount Royal, N.J. native has 25 solo shutouts, which trails Stacyy Linzenbold's 27 shutouts for second all-time in program history.
  • The goal was Schooley's second goal of her freshman campaign. She is now tied for third with Mirthe Bos with six points this season for ESU.
  • Smith's helper is the second assist of the season. Over her past four games, Smith has totaled four points on a goal and two assists.
  • ESU led 20-18 on shots and 11-10 on shots on goal.
  • The Warriors also had an edge in corner kicks (5-2).
  • Rebecca Kotula posted nine shots with five reaching the goal.

How it Happened:

  • 102:25 | Smith sent a pass to her left to Schooley, who rocketed the golden goal to the left of the Bald Eagle goalkeeper.
Up Next: The Warriors clash with Millersville, with third-place on the line and a spot in the PSAC Tournament with one game left.
