Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season by Sweeping Lock Haven; Clinch No. 1 Seed in PSAC East

LOCK HAVEN – In their final game of the regular season, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball team clinched the number one seed in the PSAC East after sweeping Lock Haven on Saturday night at Thomas Fieldhouse. The set scores were 25-13, 25-16, 25-14.

The Warriors used their eighth sweep in the last nine matches to finish the regular season 17-9 overall and 12-2 in the PSAC East, which marks the second most conference wins in program history.

ESU who qualified for the conference tournament for a third consecutive season, will host fourth-seeded Bloomsburg (12-16, 6-8) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

Notables

- After dropping their previous 26 matches to the Bald Eagles, the Warriors have now won the last four meetings

- ESU recorded their highest attack percentage of the season with a .329 mark

- Ali Finch finished with seven kills, 25 assists, eight digs and a block

- Jasmine Mooney matched Finch with a team-high seven kills to go along with three digs and a block

- Kaylee LoPresto registered five kills, 15 digs as well as one assist and an ace

- Emily Meredith paced the Warriors with 17 digs. The senior moved into third all-time for career digs with 1,631 and counting.

- ESU notched 33 kills compared to just six errors. Lock Haven was forced into 23 attack errors.

How it Happened

- After falling behind 3-0 to begin the first set, the Warriors quickly grabbed a 10-6 lead following a 5-0 sprint. Out of a timeout by Lock Haven, ESU scored nine of the next 12 points to extend their advantage to 20-10. The Warriors would ultimately close out set, 25-13, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

- With Lock Haven leading 4-3 to open the second set, ESU went on a 7-0 run to build a 10-4 advantage which forced the Bald Eagles into a timeout. The rest of the way, the teams traded points with the Warriors closing out the set, 25-16, for a 2-0 edge in the mach.

- ESU kept it rolling in the third set as the Warriors raced out to a 9-3 lead. The Warriors maintained their advantage the rest of the way and extended it to nine points when they closed Lock Haven, 25-14, for a 3-0 sweep in the match.

Up Next

The PSAC Tournament gets underway on Tuesday at Koehler Fieldhouse as the one-seed Warriors host No. 4 seed Bloomsburg at 7 p.m.

The remainder of the PSAC Tournament will be held at the site of the highest remaining seed from the East beginning on Friday. The 2021 PSAC Volleyball Championship matchup will be held on Saturday, November 20.
