Three Warriors Score in Double Figures in Loss at Edinboro

EDINBORO – Despite recording their best field goal percentage of the season (40.7%), the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team dropped a 70-55 decision to Edinboro on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.

The Warriors drop to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play while the Fighting Scots improve to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in the PSAC.

Notables

- Graduate student Ryan Weise had team-highs in points (15) and rebounds (7) to go along with one assist, steal and block a piece

- In her season debut, redshirt junior Cassie Ksiazek recorded 12 points, five rebounds and three blocks

- Sophomore Carley Adams was the third Warrior in double figures as she poured in 10 points while adding three rebounds and two steals

- Freshman Izzy Vogel added nine points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals

- ESU shot a season-best 22-of-54 (40.7) from the floor but were 3-of-11 (27.3) from behind the arc and were forced into 24 turnovers

- Gillian Fisher was an efficient 9-of-11 with a team-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds and two blocks. Rana Elhusseini added 16 points and Haley Sims had 12 points. Edinboro was 26-of-59 (44.1) from the field and 7-of-21 (33.0) from the three-point line.

- The Fighting Scots were 11-of-19 (57.9) from the free throw line while the Warriors were 8-of-12 (66.7)

How It Happened

- The Warriors opened the game with a 4-0 lead after layups from Izzy Vogel and Carley Adams but Edinboro outscored ESU 13-4 into the media timeout. Out of the break, the Warriors and Fighting Scots traded buckets, scoring 10 points each with Edinboro leading 23-18 after the end of the quarter.

- To begin the second quarter, ESU went on a 5-0 run after a three-pointer from Weise and a layup from Ksiazek to tie the game at 23-23. Following an ESU timeout, the Warriors regained the lead on another three from Weise, but the Fighting Scots answered with six quick points to go back ahead 29-26. Over the final 5:06, each team notched six points to give Edinboro a three-point edge headed into the break, 35-32.

- After ESU scored the first basket of the second half, Edinboro went on a 10-0 run and the Warriors went scoreless for over five minutes before a layup by Weise to make the score 45-37. In the last two minutes of the third quarter, Edinboro outscored ESU 7-6 to take a 51-43 advantage into the fourth.

- Edinboro found their grove to begin the final period, hitting 4-of-5 shots and using a pair of free throws to extend their lead to 63-45 at the 5:39 mark. The Warriors answered with a 8-0 run over the next three minutes to get within 10 points at 63-53 but the Fighting Scots closed out on a 7-2 sprint to defeat ESU, 70-55.

ESU continues PSAC crossover play tomorrow with a stop at Mercyhurst. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. between the Warriors and Lakers on Owen McCormick Court at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
