EAST STROUDSBURG – ÂÂAfter the No. 11 East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team tied the game up at 8-8 following a 4-0 run, No. 5 West Chester would score six of the final seven goals over the final 15 minutes of play to defeat ESU, 14-9, on Tuesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors (3-1, 2-1 PSAC East) suffer their first loss of the campaign, while the Golden Rams (3-0, 3-0 PSAC East) remain unbeaten.
"It didn't go the way we wanted to today, but we'll see them again," said ESU lacrosse head coach Xeni Barakos-Yoder. "We're looking forward to the opportunity to continue to get better."
Graduate Student Hana Cicerelle, senior Shannon Dent and freshman Emily Mitarotonda all registered hat tricks to account for the nine goals. Dent added an assist to lead ESU with four points on the afternoon. Additionally, senior midfield Brielle Curtis distributed an assist.
Graduate student Tatyana Petteway (3-1) suffered her first loss of the slate, posting 10 saves in the cage for the Warriors.
West Chester was led offensively by Hannah Stanislawcyzk and Lindsay Monigle who reach registered a hat trick. Tatum Altman, Trisha Baud, Tara Morrissey each added two goals and two assists, while Kelly Baumann found the back of the cage twice.
WCU's Julianna Clemens made nine saves in the victory.
West Chester led in shots on goal (24-18), ground balls (22-16), draw controls (15-10) and free position shots (12-8).
After Cicerelle found the back of the cage in the second minute, WCU would finish the half on a 7-3 run, as the Golden Rams would hold a 7-4 lead at the break. Cicerelle added her second goal of the contest in the eighth minute, while E. Mitarotonda struck for her opening goal in the 14th minute to trim the deficit to one at 4-3. After three unanswered goals from the Golden Rams, Shannon Dent capped the first half scoring with a goal  with just over a minute remaining. Â
After the halftime intermission, the Warriors regrouped. While the Golden Rams stuck first in the second stanza, ESU would score the next four goals, tying the game up at 8-8, after trailing 8-4. Dent scored added two goals in succession, while E. Mitarotonda also posted back-to-back goals. The four goal deficit was erased in just over 13 minutes.
The Golden Rams, who received a first-place vote in the latest IWLCA Poll, would finish the game on a 6-1 run to secure the 14-9 victory at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Cicerlle completed the hat trick performance with a goal with 9:41 left on the clock to wrap up ESU's scoring.
ESU looks to get back to its winning ways on Saturday against Shepherd at Eiler-Martin Stadium. First draw is slated for 1:00 p.m.
NOTES: With the hat trick, Cicerelle currently ranks tied for third in program history in career points (221) and holds sole possession in assists (77). Her 144 career goals rank sixth all-time, just one goal behind teammate Krista Mitarotonda. Â
