IRVING, Texas – This weekend at the USA Wrestling Junior National Championships, East Stroudsburg University freshman Mia Macaluso won a junior national championship at the 59 kg weight class at the Irving Convention Center.
With the junior national championship, Macaluso will represent the United States in a newly-created USA Junior World Team in freestyle that will compete in the 2021 Junior World Championships in Ufa, Russia from August, 16-22.
Macaluso, a native of Otisville, N.Y. earned wins in the first and third match in the best-of-three finals series over London Houston (Wash.). Macaluso grabbed a victory in the first match with a pin, while Houston took the second match via a tech fall. Macaluso punched her ticket to Russia in the 59 kg weight class with a pin at 5:41 mark in the three-match series to earn the USA Junior National Championship.

Macaluso previously represented the US at both the Cadet and Junior Pan-American Championships in June 2019. She won a bronze medal at the Junior Pan-American Championships after going 2-2. She went 5-0 to claim the gold medal at the Cadet Championships and was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament, earning the Golden Boot.
