Mia Macaluso Wins USA Junior National Championship

Macaluso will compete in Russia this summer as part of the USA Junior World Team

IRVING, Texas This weekend at the USA Wrestling Junior National Championships, East Stroudsburg University freshman Mia Macaluso won a junior national championship at the 59 kg weight class at the Irving Convention Center.

With the junior national championship, Macaluso will represent the United States in a newly-created USA Junior World Team in freestyle that will compete in the 2021 Junior World Championships in Ufa, Russia from August, 16-22.

Macaluso, a native of Otisville, N.Y. earned wins in the first and third match in the best-of-three finals series over London Houston (Wash.). Macaluso grabbed a victory in the first match with a pin, while Houston took the second match via a tech fall. Macaluso punched her ticket to Russia in the 59 kg weight class with a pin at 5:41 mark in the three-match series to earn the USA Junior National Championship.

Macaluso previously represented the US at both the Cadet and Junior Pan-American Championships in June 2019. She won a bronze medal at the Junior Pan-American Championships after going 2-2. She went 5-0 to claim the gold medal at the Cadet Championships and was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament, earning the Golden Boot.
