EAST STROUDSBURG – The marquee matchup between the seventh-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team and third-ranked Saint Anselm lived up to the hype as the Warriors were ultimately able to grind out a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
With the game tied at 1-1 midway through the fourth quarter, the Warriors were awarded a penalty stroke after a mistake by Saint Anselm. Junior Olivia Breen stepped up with confidence and buried the shot into the right corner of the goal to give ESU a 2-1 lead at the 46:51 mark. The score by Breen was her first of the season as well as the first of her career with the Warriors.
ESU (5-2) won their fifth consecutive game while Saint Anselm dropped to 3-2 on the year.

How it Happened
17:20 | After the Warriors had a goal called back in the first quarter, they were finally able to break through just under three minutes into the second. Parker ripped a shot from the top of the arc that was redirected in front of the goal by Mensenbrink past Saint Anselm's Mackenzie McConnell to give the Warriors a 2-1.
28:56 | In the final two minutes of the first half, Saint Anselm scored the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1. On their first penalty corner of the game, Joanna Archambault dished a pass to Shelby Dunn at the top of the arc, who delivered a strike that ended up being redirected by Archambault into the back of the net.
46:51 | With the game deadlocked at 1-1 at the start of the fourth quarter, ESU was granted a penalty stroke after a foul by the Hawks inside the shooting circle. After missing their previous two opportunities this season, Breen converted for her first goal of the year to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
ESU would hold on for the victory after playing suffocating defense the rest of the game as Saint Anselm failed to recorded a shot.
