Three Fourth Quarter Goals Power No. 3 Field Hockey Past No. 9 Mansfield, 4-0

EAST STROUDSBURG – With the help of a three fourth quarter goals, the third-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team powered past No. 9 Mansfield, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Finding the back of the net for the Warriors was senior Madison Kline (twice) as well as seniors Hanna Lewis and Lia Parker.

The Warriors move to 11-1 on the season, 4-1 in the conference and defeat the Mounties for the 18th consecutive time dating back to 2008, who fall to the 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC.

In the PSAC standing, ESU sits in a four-way tie with Shippensburg, Kutztown and Millersville as each team has a conference mark of 4-1.

For the second straight week, the Warriors remained at No. 3 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll.

Notables
  • Kline got the scoring started just 19 seconds into the game and recorded her second goal of the afternoon and seventh of the season at the 45:65 mark to stretch the Warriors' lead to 2-0
  • Parker pushed ESU's edge to 3-0 less than three minutes later by scoring her fourth goal of the year
  • Lewis capped off the scoring for the Warriors with her seventh goal of the season at the 50:80 mark to put the Warriors up 4-0
  • Sophomore Jady van Gils collected her team-high fifth and sixth assists of the year on the final two goals for ESU
  • Senior Nicole Krozser tallied her third assist on the goal from Kline
  • Reigning PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Amy Supey made one save in 53 minutes, while junior Emma Valinote played the last seven minutes to record the Warriors' ninth shutout of the season. Supey continues to lead the PSAC and NCAA DII with a 0.20 goals-against average and 0.923 save percentage.
  • ESU held the advantage over Mansfield in shots (13-7) and shots on goal (7-1), while each team had six penalty corners
  • In her 38th season, head coach Sandy Miller compiled her 470th career victory today, now needing 17 more to move into third all-time in Division II
How it Happened
00:19 | Kline wasted no time getting the Warriors on the board as the senior received a pass from Krozser on the left side of the circle before lofting a shot over the goalkeeper's head to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead

45:56 | Parker sent an initial pass from near midfield that found the stick of Kline racing towards the goal but after the Mounties defense made poked the ball away, the senior was able to regain control before firing a shot in the bottom left corner to stretch ESU's advantage to 2-0

48:10 | With van Gils slicing through the defense, the sophomore dropped off a pass to Parker at the top of the circle, before making a spin move and blasting a low shot into the back of the cage to put the Warriors ahead 3-0

50:28 | The scoring continued for the Warriors a little over two minutes later as van Gils threaded a pass through a pair of Mansfield defenders onto the stick of Lewis, who made a move to shake the goalkeeper before flipping a shot into the net to make the final score 4-0 in favor of ESU
