Warriors Swimming Tops Lock Haven in Road Dual

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University swimming team was back in action on Saturday afternoon and picked up a 124-111 win against the Bald Eagles at Zimmerli Pool.

The Warriors (2-5) pick up its second victory of the season, while the Bald Eagles (0-4) remain winless in dual meets.

Freshman Kennedy Leveto highlighted the meet with her sixth PSAC qualifying mark of the season, this time posting a time of 4:57.28 in the 400-yd individual medley.

Notables

  • Along with the PSAC qualifying mark that won the 400-yd IM, she took first in the 100-yd backstroke, posting a top-time this season of 1:05.83. She also helped the Warriors win both relays as the first leg.
  • Fellow first-year Vera Renshof earned victories in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:13.26) and 500-yd freestyle (5:35.75). Leveto and Renshof combined for 36 of ESU's points in individual events.
  • Madison took first place in the 100-yd freestyle, reaching for the touchpad with a time of 59.16. The time tops her season-best of 59.90 set against Cedar Crest.
  • The Warriors won both relays with Leveto, Mia Estep Avery Fohring and Renshof combining for a time of 1:58.80 in the 200-yd medley relay to open the meet.
  • In the final event, the 200-yd freestyle relay, Tafe, Nina Marchese, Leveto and Renshof combined for a time of 1:44.92 for 11 points to help seal the team win.

How It Happened

  1. ESU was off to a fast start with the opening relay win, adding an addition two points with the 'B' team's third-place finish to take an early 14-4 lead.
  2. Lock Haven's Mackenzie Eades took first in the 200-yd freestyle for nine points, but ESU's Marchese, Alyssa Brown and Rachel Heggenstaller combined to contribute nine points by finishing second through fourth place in the contest. After two events, ESU led 23-14.
  3. Leveto earned the win in the 100-yd backstroke, with Ellie Parido adding an additional two points with a fourth-place finish in the third event. The Warriors extended their lead to 34-22.
  4. Renshof followed with the victory in the 100-yd breaststroke, with Estep (3rd) and Fohring (5th) combining to add 13 points to the Warriors' score. ESU led 47-28 after the fourth event.
  5. LHU's Lauren Mummert and Emma Pequignot were the lone swimmers in the 200-yd butterfly, with LHU cutting the deficit to 47-41.
  6. LHU picked up another win in the 50-yd freestyle, with Kace Berardinelli picking up nine points. ESU's Erin Brandeburg (27.63), Gabby Ciesla (28.02) and Olivia Tokonitz (31.57) immediately followed. ESU held on to a 56-51 lead after the sixth event.
  7. Tafe's win in the 100-yd freestyle came next, with Brandeburg taking third and Tokonitz earning a point in fifth place. ESU held 69 points compated to the Bald Eagles' mark of 57.
  8. LHU earned first and third place in the 200-yd backstroke for 12 points, with Alyssa Brown (2nd, 2:30) and Ellie Parido (4th, 2:38) cutting the harm with a combined six points. The Bald Eagles began to creep back, but ESU continued to lead 75-68
  9. With the individual events winding down, LHU picked up a win in the 200-yd breaststroke. ESU countered with a second and fifth-place finish in the event from Estep (2:43.56) and Heggenstaller (2:53.97). Suddenly, the Bald Eagles led 82-81.
  10. Renshof came up with a clutch win in the 10th event, the 100-yd freestyle, with Marchese grabbing second place (6:00.64) and Gabby Ciesla (6:12.60) taking fourth. ESU retook the lead at 96-86 after earning 15 of the 19 points in the event.
  11. Lock Haven made the last few events interesting, earning 11 points in the 100-yd butterfly with a first and fourth place finish. Fohring earned a much needed second place finish (1:04.97), with Parido following just behind her (1:08.50). ESU held a 103-97 advantage entering the final individual event.
  12. Leveto earned the victory in the 400-yd IM and picked up her sixth qualifying mark. She edged Lauren Mumert, who also posted a qualifying time as the Bald Eagles took second, third and fourth in the event. The win was crucial to ESU's team win, with the Warriors clinging to a 113-106 lead with just the 200-yd freestyle relay.
  13. The Warriors clinched the team win with the 'A' team's time of 1:44.92 in the final event, for the final score of 124 to 111.
