KUTZTOWN – Behind an MVP-like performance from junior goalkeeper
Amy Supey according to head coach
Sandy Miller, the third-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team upended #1 Kutztown, 2-0, in the PSAC Semifinals on Friday evening at Andre Reed Stadium.
ESU (17-2) defended 16 Golden Bears' (16-3) penalty corners and Supey made six saves, including facing the first penalty stroke of her career in the second quarter, to earn a spot in Sunday's PSAC Championship game.
"I can sum it up with three letters, M-V-P," said Miller. "That's what the team was shouting, and she is playing unbelievable right now." "She deserved the First Team All-PSAC honors and while our team is very solid at every single position, Supey has really been the difference maker for keeping us in some of these games." "The pressure that Kutztown put on in the third quarter was unbelievable, but Supey was awesome."
"I was really nervous going into it because I've never saved a stroke before in a game, but it was really exciting I got to save it," said Supey. "I just remember watching it in film, the stroke and where it was going to, so I had a little bit of an idea."
The Warriors got the board early as the senior
Madison Kline scored in the first quarter on ESU's third corner opportunity, before senior
Lia Parker extended the advantage to 2-0 at the 40:36 mark.
ESU seeks their third PSAC title and will play the Marauders on Sunday for the second time in championship game, with the first meeting coming back in 2015.
"Millersville is playing really good (field) hockey, I said we have to be ready to go," added Miller. "We have a lot to play for and I'm really proud of them because anytime you get to the finals it's awesome."
