ELMIRA, N.Y. – In the 2022-23 season opening dual match, the No. 14 East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team fell to No. 19 Elmira, 25-22, on Wednesday evening inside Speidel Gymnasium.
The Warriors (0-1) look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow against Western New England, while Elmira enters the ESU Open on Sunday with a dual match record of 1-0.

- In her ESU debut, former All-American and Colorado Mesa transfer Zoe Gress highlighted the match for the Warriors with a pin over Hazel Dahlquist at 170. It took less than a minute into her ESU tenure to make an impact, leading 6-0 before pinning the Soaring Eagle in 58 seconds to pull ESU within a point of EC at 22-21 with one match left.
- ESU's Sofia Macaluso, No. 3 Mia Macaluso, and Grace Kaczanowski each started the campaign with a win after Elmira forfeited at 123, 130 and 143, respectively.
- After Gress' win pulled the Warriors within a point at 22-21, Shola Cascen looked to give the Warriors a team victory in the final match, but a 12-4 decision by Mariyah Casados lifted EC to the 25-22 win.
