LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team completed its second-ever regular season in style, defeating Sacred Heart, Lock Haven and Hiram on Sunday at Thomas Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (9-2) have now won seven of their past eight dual matches this season, with the lone falter in that span coming at No. 9 Gannon.
ESU opened the quad meet with a 24-17 win over Sacred Heart and followed its seventh victory of the season with its second win over Lock Haven this season, handing the host Bald Eagles a 25-15 loss. The Warriors closed the successful regular season with a 39-6 thumping over Hiram.
Notables
- The Warriors did not lose at 116, 123, 130, 143 against either of the three squads.
- Mia Macaluso led ESU on the day with three wins, with two coming via quick pins along with a tech fall in just 28 seconds (11-0) against Sacred Heart. The No. 7 wrestler nationally at 130 is now 6-0 in her collegiate career entering her first postseason.
- ESU grabbed a big 19-0 lead over Sacred Heart after three forfeits and a Macaluso tech fall. After SHU picked up its first points with a tech fall, Avia Bibeau clinched the Warrior win with a pin in just 34 seconds. SHU would take the final three matches (two pins and a decision), but ESU's big lead would stand.
- Against Lock Haven, the Bald Eagles took a 7-1 lead after a tech fall and decision victories at 109 and 116. ESU stormed back into the match with an Emily Klein pin (3:18) at 123 to make it a 7-6 match. The Warriors grabbed its first lead of the match at 130, as Macaluso pinned her foe in 1:22 to make it an 11-7 contest. A Bald Eagle tech fall at 136 evened the match at 11-11, but ESU claimed three of the final four matches via forfeit to secure its second win of the day.
- ESU completed the sweep against Hiram, but the Terriers took the first lead of the day after a pin at 109. It was all ESU after that matchup, as eight consecutive Warrior victories decided the match. ESU earned five wins via forfeit, pins by Macaluso (130) and Shola Cascen (191) along with a tech fall by Bri Simsic at 170 .
- In extra matches, ESU went 2-1. Carmela Cancelmo earned a pin in 51 seconds over SHU's Ayeska Zanetti. Alanna Barberio earned a tech fall victory over Hiram's Bethany Smith by a score of 12-1.
