ESU Swimming Opens PSAC Championships

The Warriors earn 40 team points in the 800-yd freestyle

YORK, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University swimming team opened the PSAC Championships on Wednesday. Madison Tafe, Avery Fohring, Naihomy Garcia, Emma Billings and Nina Marchese all participated in the first session of the four-day conference championship meet.

After the day one of the four day meet, ESU sits in 11th place with 40 points.

How it Happened - Session 1 (Prelims)

  • In the morning session, Madison Tafe posted a time of 11:27.73, besting her seed time of 11:41.04 by nearly 15 seconds. She finished 32nd overall in the event.
  • Avery Fohring clocked a time of 2:21.70 in the 200-yd individual medley, which placed her in 39th place.
  • The 50-yd freestyle was up next for ESU. Jenna Johnson led three Warriors with a  time of 25.38 for 35th place in the 50-yd freestyle that featured 57 competitors. ESU's Naihomy Garcia (50th, 26.29) and Emma Billings (51st, 26.43) also swam in the event.
  • Nina Marchese closed the first session for the Warriors with the 100-yd butterfly time trial, touching the block with a time of 1:05.86.

How it Happened - Session 2 (Finals)

  • ESU's 800-yd freestyle relay team of Johnson, Billings, Garcia and Tafe finished ninth of 12 teams in the event. The Warriors clocked a time of 8:09.92, besting their seed time of 8:46.77 to earn 40 team points
