EAST STROUDSBURG – Trailing 1-0 through 26 minutes of play, East Stroudsburg University women's soccer midfielder Millie Smith registered her third goal of the season for the equalizer in the 65th minute of action, as ESU and No. 12 Kutztown went on to tie at 1-1 on Wednesday evening inside Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors (3-0-1, 1-0-1) and the nationally-ranked Golden Bears (3-0-1, 2-0-1) remain unbeaten through four contests.
Notables
- In four games this season, Smith has already tallied three goals. She posted a pair of goals against Felician on Aug. 27. The Middletown, Md. native now leads ESU with three goals, two assists and eight points on the season.
- Caroline McDonald found the back of the net for Kutztown to open the scoring. It marked the second goal of the career for the freshman from Exton.
- Emmy Clarkson made three saves on the evening for the Warriors. The freshman now has a goal allowed average of 0.79 and a save percentage of .842 through four career contests.
- ESU led 17-11 on shots and 7-4 on shots on goal.
- Natalie Schooley paced the offense with four shots, while Rebecca Kotula fired off three. Smith and Mirthe Bos each tallied two.
- The Warriors produced seven corner kicks, compared to two from the Golden Bears.
- There were no cards issued and limited fouls were called in the clean contest.
- ESU welcomed back former Warrior goalkeeper, Jules Harris as a guest coach for the contest. The former All-American still holds ESU goalkeeping records in shutouts and minutes played.
- ESU's draw is a first with non-overtime, as all NCAA soccer teams now settle for a draw after 90 minutes played with a tied score.
How It Happened
- 27' | McDonald was able to keep possession, despite being swarmed by Warrior defenders. ESU attempted to clear, but McDonald would settle the ball and find space as Clarkson approached. Just before Clarkson could get a hand on the ball, McDonald shot a dribbler into the twine.
- 65' | With possession up for grabs in the offensive zone via a header, Smith was able to immediately rattle off a shot to the nearside corner. The shot just went past the outreached gloves of the Golden Bear goalkeeper for the equalizing goal
