KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University swimming team returned to competition for the first time in calendar year, falling to Kutztown, 147-112 on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Natatorium.
The Warriors fall to 2-6 in dual meets on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 5-5 on the season.
Highlighting the meet were Vera Renshof who won both the 50-and 100-yd freestyles, while fellow freshman Kennedy Leveto took victories in the 100 and 200-yd breaststroke. Also winning an individual event was Avery Fohring, who hit the touchpad first in the 200-yd butterfly. ESU posted wins in four consecutive events from event five to event eight.
How it Happened
- The Warriors started 2023 strong with an important victory in the 200-yd medley relay, along with the B team taking third place to take a quick 13-4 advantage. The crew of Jenna Johnson, Kennedy Leveto, Avery Fohring and Vera Renshoff totaled a time of 1:55.71 to pace the competition.
- Samantha Grayauskie paced three Warriors in the 1000-yd freestyle (11:47.57), taking second to Kutztown's Annamarie Rodier.
- Naihomy Garcia tallied a time of 2:09.09 in the 200-yd freestyle, taking third place of four competitors.
- Jenn Johnson took runner-up in the 100-yd backstroke (1:06.81), trailing only Gracie McKee's conference qualifying mark of 1:00.52.
- Leveto picked up her first of two first-place finishes on the day in the 100-yd breaststroke, claiming a time of 1:11.70 to edge a Golden Bear by a second. Mia Estep followed in third place (1:14.69).
- Fohring notched a win in the 200-yd butterfly, finishing first by nearly 10 seconds, with a time of 2:23.35.
- The Warriors earned its third consecutive win of four, with Renshof earning first in the both the 50-yd freestyle (25.01) with a PSAC qualifying time. She then tallied another qualifying mark in the 100-yd freestyle (53.84), as the Warriors put together a nice winning stretch from event five to event eight.
- Johnson followed with her second runner-up mark on the day, clocking a time of 2:23.10 in the 200-yd backstroke.
- Leveto then took first in the 200-yd breaststroke, with a conference meet mark of 2:36.04, just edging a Golden Bear by a tenth of a second. Estep followed in third place at 2:44.30.
- After taking second place in the 1000-yd freestyle, Grayauskie took third in the 500-yd freestyle (5:54.03) to take third place.
- In the 100-yd butterfly, ESU took second place through fourth, with Fohring (1:03.44), Nina Marchese (1:08.53) and Ellie Parido (1:09.63) combining to add nine points to the Warriors' team score.
- In the final event, the 200-yd freestyle relay, ESU's 'A' team took second place, with Johnson, Garcia, Leveto and Renshof combining to clock a 1:44.74, nearly taking first place behind KU's mark of 1:44.35.
