Warriors Tops Cedar Crest in First Dual Meet of the Season

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University swimming team earned a 156-84 win over Cedar Crest in the first dual meet of the season for the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the Rodale Aquatic Center.

Of the 15 events, ESU took first in 11, with five Warriors totaling six PSAC qualifying marks.

PSAC Qualifiers How It Happened
  • The Warriors opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yd medley relay, with Jenna Johnson, Rachel Heggenstaller, Emily Gambler and Nina Marchese giving ESU 11 points with a time of 2:00.68
  • Up next was the 1000-yd freestyle, with ESU taking the top three positions in the event. Madison Tafe (11:50.83), Sam Grayauskie (11:52.45) and Alyssa Brown (12:05.97) hit the touch pad in first, second and third place.
  • The Warriors took the top three spots in the 200-yd freestyle, led by Dutch swimmers Vera Renshof's and Anique Hazebroek's PSAC qualifying mark of 1:57.31 and 2:00.31. Hazebroek nearly recorded an ESU Top-10 mark in the event. Helia Wang took third with a time of 2:07.76.
  • ESU once again took the top-three times in the 50-yd backstroke. Jenna Johnson (29.74), Gabby Ciesla (35.02) and Willow Palmer (38.10) tallied the top times.
  • Mia Estep paced the competition in the 50-yd breaststroke with a mark of 34.52 to add nine points to ESU's lead.
  • Kennedy Leveto posted her first conference qualifying mark of the season in the 50-yd freestyle, by registering a time of 25.27 for first place. Olivia Tokonitz (29.45) and Kaylynn MacMinn (29.72) both followed Leveto in second and third place.
  • Mia Estep picked up her second event victory in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:15.74), finishing just ahead of teammate Madison Tafe (1:19.86) who grabbed second-place.
  • Anique Hazebroek tallied her third PSAC qualifying mark in just her second meet next, as she finished with a time of 5:21.59. Following Hazebroek were Nina Marachese (5:56.90) and Avery Fohring (6:00.26) in second and third.
  • Leveto recorded her second first-place finish of the afternoon next, with a time of 28.66 in the 50-yd butterfly. Naihomy Garcia earned a third-place finish (29.60)
  • Helia Wang led all compeititors in the 400-yd individual medley, with a time of 5:03.43. Rachel Heggenstaller followed in third place (5:34.0)
  • ESU closed the meet strong with another relay victory, as Jenna Johnson, Naihomy Garcua, Sam Grayauskie and Anique Hazebroek combining for the top time of 1:45.24 in the 200-yd freestyle relay. Johnson's first-leg of 25.76 in the relay qualified her for the PSAC meet.
  • Avery Fohring qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 200-yd butterfly in an exhibition event at Rodale Aquatic Center (2:20.17).

  • The Warriors open its home slate on Friday, when ESU welcomes PSAC foes California (Pa.) and Kutztown to Koehler Fieldhouse for the ESU Tri-Meet. The meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. The three teams will then compete again on Saturday at noon at Kutztown.
