Women’s Wrestling Tabbed Seventh in NWCA Coaches Rankings, Three Warriors Nationally Ranked

MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced on Thursday afternoon that the East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team was selected seventh in the first edition of the NWCA Coaches Rankings, along with three Warriors being named to the NWCA Individual Rankings

Reigning NCWWC All-Americans Emily Klein (116, 6th), Mia Macaluso (123, 2nd) and Zoe Gress (143, 5th) were all featured in the NWCA Individual Rankings.

The Warriors enter their fourth season of competition in 2023-24, recording a dual record of 7-5. ESU took first-place in the inaugural Pennsylvania Women Collegiate State Championships, earned a third-place finish among 11 teams at the NCWWC Region 1 Championships, and took eighth place at the NCWWC National Championships behind four NCWWC All-American performances.

Emily Klein took 6th place a season go at the NCWWC National Championships at 116, compiling a record of 30-6 with 15 pins and eight tech falls. During a stretch of the season, the Paramus, N.J. native earned wins in 16 consecutive matches, including 27 victories in a 28-match span.

Mia Macaluso became the Warriors women's wrestler to earn NCWWC All-America status in multiple seasons, earning a third-place finish at 123 after earning four-place at 130 in 2021-22. Macaluso posted a 26-7 record, taking first at the state championship meet. Macaluso's bronze finish is the top finish among all Warriors at nationals. She enters her senior season with a collegiate record of 38-10 with 19 falls and 10 tech falls.

Gress earned her second NCWWC All-America honor of her collegiate career and her first as a Warrior in 2022-23 after a seventh-place finish at nationals. The Hoosick Falls, N.Y. native recorded a 22-9 record a season ago, pinning 13 of her foes. She took fourth place at the NCWWC Region 1 Championships and finished as a runner-up at the PA Women's Collegiate State Championships.

ESU opens the 2023-24 season with a dual meet against Elmira on Nov. 1. The contest against the Screaming Eagles is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
