No. 7 ESU Downs No. 22 Elmira in Season Opener

EAST STROUDSBURG – Behind six pins, including four consecutive falls to start the match, the No. 7 East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team picked up a 37-12 victory over No. 22 Elmira on Wednesday evening, inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (1-0) begin the season with a ranked win, while the Soaring Eagles (0-1) fall in its 2023-24 opener.

Notables
  • From the start, ESU dominated the action, with four consecutive pins from Olivia Klein (101), Madi Mansmann, No. 6 Emily Klein (116) and Waverly KaneLong (123).
  • Holding a 20-0 lead, Gianna Amendola (136) was able to add a point in a 7-7 decision loss to make it a 21-13 contest.
  • Zoe Gress (136) recorded a fall in 19 seconds over Gabby Bradigan, extending ESU's lead to 26-3.
  • EC picked up points in back-to-back matches at 143 and 155, with Zoey Lintz pinning Jayla Hahn and #7 Skylah Chakouian totaling a 12-2 tech fall over Paityn Delong in their Warrior debuts.  
  • ESU closed the match strong, with Jade Huerta earning a fall over Hazel Dahlquist at 170 for five additional points. EC forfeited at 191, with Ariel Ofri-Akman earning her first collegiate win.
  • Six Warriors made their collegiate debut, with four starting their records at 1-0. Olivia Klein, Madi Mansmann and Jade Huerta picked up wins via fall in their first match.
  • ESU improves to 4-1 all-time against EC.
  • In extra matches, Jackeline Ramos-Oviedo picked up a 10-0 tech fall in her collegiate debut over EC's Sam Lamorte. Additionally, Elmira's Ella Bode earned a pin at 2:52 over Rachel DeGiulio.
