EAST STROUDSBURG – On Tuesday, East Stroudsburg University women's basketball graduate student
Shyla Sanford was tabbed the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week.
In a pair of victories for the Warriors last week, Sanford averaged 5.5 points, 7.0 rebounds 2.0 assists and 4.5 steals across 37.2 minutes per game. The Latham, N.Y. native had nine points, four rebounds and three steals against Kutztown before matching her career-high with 10 boards to go along with six steals and four assists in a win over Shepherd on Saturday to help clinch a PSAC Tournament berth for ESU.
Starting all 27 games for the Warriors this season, Sanford is averaging 8.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals while playing a team-high 34.6. minutes per contest.
The PSAC weekly honors are the first of her ESU career and it marks the second time a Warrior received an award this season as Weise was named the Athlete of the Week back on November 24.
Additionally, Sanford becomes just the second player in program history to garner PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors and first since Jordan Hertz back on November 11, 2019.
