EAST STROUDSBURG – Following the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship regionals, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced that the East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team is ranked No. 11 in the NCWWC Team Rankings on Thursday afternoon.
Additionally, the organization announced that Emily Klein (No. 6, 116), Sofia Macaluso (No. 4, 123) and Mia Macaluso (No. 6, 123) are all nationally ranked as individuals.
The Warriors took third at the NCWWC Region 1 Championships last weekend, with six Warriors advancing to the NCWWC National Championships on March 4-5 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Klein and Sofia Macaluso both claimed NCWWC Region 1 titles.
Along with Klein and the Macaluso sisters, Haley Delia (101), Zoe Gress (143) and Shola Cascen (191) all qualified for the national championship meet by finishing fourth place in their respective weight class.
Klein improved her record to 27-3 following four wins at regionals, collecting her second consecutive region championship after earning the top spot at 123 a season ago. She enters the national championship meet on a 10-match win streak, and earned victories in 22 of the past 23 matches.
Sofia Macaluso boasts a season record of 16-1, defeating her sister Mia in the semifinals before eraning a pin in the first-place match over now No. 5 Naomi Henry. She looks to join her sister as one of ESU's NCWWC All-Americans at nationals.
Mia Macaluso re-enters the national rankings, after taking third place at regionals. She bounced back from her loss against Sofia with a pin in 35 seconds in the consolation semifinals before earning an 8-1 decision in the third-place match. She looks to become the first two-time NCWWC All-American in program history at nationals, currently boasting a record of 21-6 in 2022-23. She took fourth place at 123 a season ago at nationals.
