Today we would like to honor our second Warrior in our series!
My name is Lisa Larsson and I am a junior transfer on the field hockey team studying sociology and psychology with a minor in criminal justice. I transferred here after taking a gap year during COVID after my freshman year in New York. My previous school's field hockey program wasn't very competitive so I was excited to play for ESU which has such a successful program.
Once I got here, I went from being one of the best on my team to being surrounded by teammates that are either as good or better than me. I got injured during preseason and from then on my confidence plummeted and I worked all season to get back to enjoying my sport and not being terrified of making mistakes at practice. Through the season I made it my goal to be a positive teammate on the sideline and do what I could to support and help my teammates.
Coming back this year, the work I'd done for the last year through journaling, therapy, and leaning on teammates and family allowed me to ground myself and enjoy playing again. I continue to work on keeping my worth separate from my sport and being a supporter for anyone on my team who I see struggling with some of the same things I did. Being a campus captain for the hidden opponent has given me so many cool resources and a community that supports growth which I really love!
