PHILADELPHIA – In its second contest of the season, the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team got off to a fast start, scoring three first-half goals in a 3-0 win over Holy Family on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Warriors (2-0) close the non-conference portion of its schedule undefeated. The Tigers (1-1) suffer its first loss of the season after a 5-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas in its season opener last Thursday.
Notables
- ESU posted goals in the 17th, 35th and closed the scoring with a goal in the 40th minute of the first half.
- The Warriors outshot the Tigers, 18-9, including 11-3 on shots on goal.
- Rebecca Kotula, Millie Smith and Natalie Schooley all recorded goals in the first half. Kotula and Smith both posted goals in ESU's opener against Dominican on Thursday, while Schooley's goal is the first of the season for the Cherry Hill, N.J. native.
- Kotula's goal was the 15th of her career, and she now has 36 career points. Smith now has seven career goals and 18 career points. Schooley's goal is the eighth of her career and has totaled 21 career points.
- Warrior goalkeeper Emmy Clarkson made three saves in goal for her second consecutive shutout. She now has seven career clean sheets after totaling five during her freshman season in 2022. She'll look to blank Bloomsburg on Wednesday for the second time in two seasons.
- In two games to open the Meagan DeWan era, the Warriors have outscored the opposition, 6-0, and have outshot foes by a mark of 26-4.
How It Happened
- 17' | After ESU was fouled in the box, Kotula stuck for her second goal in two games with a penalty kick. The Wyomissing, Pa. native sent a shot to the right side, which beat the diving goalkeeper.
- 35' | Kotula was able to intercept possession from HFU, sending a beautiful pass to Millie Smith. Smith made a move to her right to avoid a defender and instantly rocketed to the right of the diving goalkeeper and into the back of the net to lift ESU to a 2-0 advantage.
- 40' | Off a corner kick from Kotula, ESU was able to settle possession on the far side of the goal. With a scrum in front of the net, Schooley buried a shot into the net for the third and final goal of the contest.
