LOCK HAVEN – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced on Tuesday that East Stroudsburg University field hockey student-athlete Jady van Gils was selected to the prestigious PSAC Fall Top 10.
The PSAC Top 10 was initiated in the 1998-98 academic year, given to men and women who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. PSAC Fall Top 10 student-athletes must participate in either football, volleyball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey or men's and women's soccer.
van Gils continues to collect numerous honors and awards since her junior season concluded as the Amersfoort, Netherlands native has now earned NFHCA National Player of the Year, NFHCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year, NFHCA First Team All-America, PSAC Athlete of the Year, All-PSAC First Team and PSAC Tournament MVP along with being named to the prestigious PSAC Top 10. Additionally, she is representing field hockey as one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DII Honda Athlete of the Year.
van Gils made her presence felt on both ends of the field as the midfielder totaled 25 points, the second most on the team, with 10 goals and five assists. She ranked ninth in the PSAC in points (1.19), 10th in goals (0.48) and 13th in assists (0.31) per game.
Through three seasons with the Warriors, van Gils has played in 59 games and made 57 starts while registering 50 points on 16 goals and 18 assists. She is a two-time NFHCA First Team All-American and honored on the All-PSAC Teams twice (Second Team – 2022, First Team – 2023).
In the classroom, van Gils holds a 3.68 GPA while pursuing her bachelor's degree in sport management and has been honored as a PSAC Scholar-Athlete twice.
van Gils becomes the fifth ESU field hockey player honored on the PSAC Fall Top 10, joining Katie Horst (1997-98), Emily Howell (2016), Sydney McCarthy (2018) and Hannah Barbush (2021).
The PSAC Top 10 award winners for each season are placed on the ballot for the Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, which will be announced in the spring. One men's and one women's student-athlete will be selected to receive the PSAC's top scholar-athlete honor, which was renamed in 2008 to recognize the contributions of Pete Nevins, ESU's sports information director from 1969-2002.
ESU now has 61 recipients of the PSAC Top 10 award which is the fourth most among the 18 PSAC institutions in the conference.
