Warriors Fall in NCAA Semifinal Round

GAFFNEY, N.C. — The No. 3 East Stroudsburg University field hockey team (17-5) lost to No. 7 Saint Anselm (17-6), 3-0, at Saints Field Saturday evening.

The Hawks struck first with a goal late in the first period after earning the first corner of the game. The score remained 1-0 for most of the contest as both defenses kept the offenses in check. In the fourth quarter Saint Anselm's scored shortly after a corner attempt, and then Hawks scored again just under a minute later to make it 3-0.

Notables:
  • Despite the final margin, ESU put up a valiant effort. The Warriors held the advantage in shots (10-5), shots on goal (5-3), and corners (6-3) but were ultimately unable to score.
  • This season marked the ninth straight season with 15+ victories and an NCAA Tournament appearance, and the seventh straight trip to the Final Four.
  • During the season head coach Sandy Miller became the third NCAA Division ll field hockey coach to reach 500 career wins.
  • The game concluded the fantastic collegiate careers of Allyson Forman and Jady van Gils, who led the Warriors to two PSAC championships, two national championship games, and the program's second national title.
  • Forman a PSAC Scholar-Athlete finishes her career with 66 games played for the Warriors, tallying 11 goals and assists. She also scored two game-winning goals and converted twice on penalty stroke attempts.
  • van Gils also a PSAC Scholar-Athlete started 79 of the 81 games she played, recording 28 goals and 29 assists, with nine game-winning goals. Her 29 career assists rank third in program history, and her 11 assists this season are tied for sixth most by a Warrior. van Gils who has earned many awards in her career is also the only Warrior to win PSAC Athlete of the Year twice, earning the honor this year for the second consecutive time. Last season, she became the first Warrior in program history to be named National Player of the Year by the NFHCA and the second overall to earn National Player of the Year honors.
