EAST STROUDSBURG – Heading into the final relay event trailing Felician, the East Stroudsburg University swimming team's 200-yd freestyle relay team of
Anique Hazebroek,
Kennedy Leveto,
Jenna Johnson and
Vera Renshof earned first place to propel the Warriors to a 127-121 victory on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.
With the win, ESU closes its dual meet season with a 6-2 record, earning three consecutive victories. The Golden Falcons (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season.
Notables
- Both teams split the 14 events, with seven first place finishes for both squads.
- Along with 200-yd freestyle, first-place finishers for ESU included Anique Hazebroek (1650-yd freestyle, 100-yd butterfly), Vera Renshof (200-yd freestyle), Kennedy Leveto (100-yd freestyle), Mia Estep (200-yd breaststroke) and Helia Wang (400-yd Individual Medley).
- Hazebroek's mark of 18:32.30 in the 1650-yd freestyle was a PSAC qualifying mark and ranks fourth fastest in program history. She leads ESU with eight PSAC qualifying marks, including all six freestyle events.
- The ESU Department of Athletics honored seniors Naihomy Garcia, Jenna Johnson, Madison Tafe and Olivia Tokonitz before their final home meet at Koehler Fieldhouse.
- The Warriors avenged a 144.50 - 86.50 loss to Felician last season at Koehler Fieldhouse.
How It Happened
- Felician started the meet strong with a close first-place finish in the 200-yd medley relay. Leveto, Avery Fohring, Renshof and Hazebroek combined for a time of 1:57.17 for second place.
- Hazebroek then recorded the fourth fastest time in the 1650-yd freestyle (18:32.30) for nine team points. Alyssa Brown just missed out on a PSAC qualifying mark, recording a time if 19:20.23 for second place.
- Renshof followed with a victory in the 200-yd freestyle (1:57.08) Tafe and Johnson followed in third and fourth place, as the Warriors combined to earn 14 points in the event.
- Samantha Grayauskie paced the Warriors with a third-place finish in the 100-yd backstroke (1:05.61).
- Rachel Heggenstaller registered a time of 1:14.04 in the 100-yd breaststroke for a third-place finish.
- Leveto took runner-up honors in the 50-yd freestyle, clocking a time of 25.43. Emily Gambler (4th, 25.97) and Garcia (5th, 26.26) also placed in the top five.
- Leveto followed that performance by winning the 100-yd freestyle, posting a season-best time of 55.97. Nina Marchese (58.01) and Garcia (58.27) took fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Brown, the lone Warrior to compete in 200-yd backstroke, took second of three competitors with a time of 2:34.01
- Estep picked up a crucial nine points in the 200-yd breaststroke (2:37.63) in a near PSAC qualifying time. Fohring took third (2:51.51).
- Tafe took second in the 500-yd freestyle (5:41.94), just missing out on first place (Tijana Lukic, 5:41.78)
- Hazebroek (1:01.45) and Gambler (1:01.58) took the top two spots in the 100-yd butterfly to combine for 13 points.
- With the meet nearing the end, Wang (4:57.69) and Heggenstaller (5:07.96) nabbed the top two spots in the 400-yd individual medley to put the Warriors in position to win the meet if it could take first place in the 200-yd freestyle relay.
- Hazebroek, Leveto, Johnson and Renshof came through in the final event, the 200-yd freestyle relay, clocking a time of 1:40.64, besting Felican's mark of 1:44.07 to win the meet.
