Warriors Cruise Past Mountaineers for Second Straight Victory

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team earned a dominant 70-50 victory over Mansfield in its return to Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday. 

The Warriors (8-10, 5-7 PSAC) with the win, are now one game behind third place in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers (8-11, 4-9) fell to 1-1 on the week after an impressive victory over the Golden Rams on Wednesday. 

Notables 

Emily Chmiel (pictured above) recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while adding three steals and two assists. Chmiel is currently tied for first in Division II in double-doubles. 

Twins Brie and Brooke Droege both finished in double figures again. Brie Droege scored 15 points on 62.4% shooting, adding seven rebounds, two steals, one block, and an assist. Brooke Droege finished with 13 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. 

Corrin Gill contributed eight points, six steals, and five assists. 

ESU dominated the boards, out rebounding Mansfield, 47-33. 

How It Happened 

After trailing 2-0 early, ESU scored 12 consecutive points to take a 12-2 lead. Mansfield cut the deficit to 16-8 by scoring six of the final 10 points of the first quarter. 

The Mountaineers closed within five points twice early in the second quarter, but ESU ended the half with an 11-0 run to build a 33-17 lead at the break. 

The Warriors extended their lead to a game-high 28 points at 49-21 with 4:18 left in the third quarter. ESU led 55-30 entering the final period. 

The Warriors cruised the rest of the way, maintaining at least a 15-point lead to seal the 70-50 win. 

Up Next 

ESU will be idle until Wednesday, Jan. 29, when it travels to Kutztown to close the month. The Warriors and Golden Bears are scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
