Fourth Quarter Comeback Pushes Field Hockey Past Indiana

INDIANA, Pa. — A fourth-quarter comeback pushed the East Stroudsburg field hockey team past Indiana Saturday night, earning the Warriors a valuable 2-1 conference win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crimson Hawks came out of the gates strong and struck first, breaking through late in the first quarter. After defending a penalty corner in its own end, IUP worked the ball quickly into the offensive end where Sydney Pope came up with a save on Grace McGeehan. Indiana earned a penalty corner off the chance, where Sydney Schmouder got the Crimson Hawks on the board off an assist from Jess Davidson with 31 seconds remaining in the quarter.
  • The Warriors nearly evened the game up in the second quarter, with Sydney Frantz getting a good look at the cage with five minutes left, but Celeste Pagliaroli came up with the stop for Indiana.
  • Even with the lead, IUP continued to pressure the Warriors' defense in the third quarter, outshooting East Stroudsburg 3-0. Two of Indiana's chances went wide, but Pope came up big on McGeehan again halfway through the frame.
  • The difference between the third and fourth quarters were night and day for East Stroudsburg, as the Warriors flipped the field and outshot Indiana 4-0 in the final frame. Getting the scoring started for ESU was Puck de Ruiter, with Kerry Kaufman assisting, in the first minute off a penalty corner.
  • About six minutes later, the Warriors were pressing hard for the go-ahead goal, as a shot by Minke Klijn was stopped by Pagliaroli, but the Warriors got another corner shortly after. Alex Eagles put ESU ahead with five minutes left on her second goal in three games.

GAME NOTES
  • The Warriors have now won six-straight games to move to 13-2 on the season and improve to 4-2 against PSAC opponents.
