Warriors Kick-Off Season with Seven Swimmers Hitting PSAC Qualifying Times

Bloomsburg, Pa. –
The East Stroudsburg University swimming team showcased exceptional performances, highlighted by a school record and multiple PSAC qualifying times, during the tri-meet held Saturday in Bloomsburg, Pa.
 
While facing competition from Bloomsburg University and Shippensburg University, the Warriors secured several top-four finishes and saw swimmers solidify their spots for PSAC Championships.
 
Notables
Chelsea Chiu broke the 50-yard backstroke school record during the 200-yard Medley Relay, swimming a time of 26.96, surpassing the previous record of 27.42.

Anique Hazebroek claimed two individual victories, winning the 1000-yard Freestyle and the 500-yard Freestyle, both with PSAC qualifying times. Hazebroek won the 1000 free with a time of 11:02.17 and the 500 free with a time of 5:19.34.

Seven ESU swimmers punched their tickets for the PSAC championships, including Vera Renshof (50 free, 100 free), Anna Stauffer (100 free, 200 free), Hazebroek (500 free, 1000 free), Chiu (100 back), Kennedy Leveto (100 breast), Tamara Engler (100 breast), and Mikayla Potts (200 free).

Engler finished third in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:08.57, PSAC time).

Stauffer earned two top-five finishes, taking third in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:59.88, PSAC time) and fifth in the 100-yard Freestyle (55.80, PSAC time).

The ESU 'A' team placed second in the final relay event, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay.
 
How It Happened
Relays:
ESU opened the meet strong in the 200-yard Medley Relay, where the A-Team of Chiu, Leveto, Gambler, and Renshof finished second with a time of 1:50.46. The B-Team (Palochik, Engler, McMenamin, Kling) finished fifth (1:56.52). In the final event, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, ESU's A-Team (Hazebroek, Potts, Leveto, Stauffer) placed second (1:42.45).
 
Individual Events:
Hazebroek secured the first individual win for the Warriors in the 1000-yard Freestyle with a PSAC time of 11:02.17.
 
In the 200-yard Freestyle, ESU saw two athletes achieve PSAC marks: Stauffer took third (1:59.88), and Potts finished fifth (2:00.61).
 
The 50-yard Freestyle saw Renshof finish fourth (24.72, PSAC time). Renshof later tied for second in the 100-yard Freestyle with a PSAC time of 54.78, with Stauffer right behind in fifth place (55.80, PSAC time).
 
ESU had a dominant showing in the 500-yard Freestyle, where Hazebroek topped the field (5:19.34, PSAC) and Helia Wang finished fourth (5:47.44). Hazebroek's victory was her second individual win of the meet.
 
In breaststroke events, ESU captured third and fourth place in the 100-yard Breaststroke, led by Engler in third (1:08.57, PSAC time) and Leveto in fourth (1:09.34, PSAC time).
 
Other notable finishes included:
Chiu placed fourth in the 100-yard Backstroke, hitting a PSAC time of 1:02.31.

Potts finished fifth in the 100-yard Butterfly (1:01.48), while Emily Gambler took seventh (1:02.89).

Wang placed tenth in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:27.32).
