EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg swimming team set two new program records and three new pool records in its 135-127 win against Millersville Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Anique Hazebroek and Tamara Engler made history for the Warriors on Saturday across the 1,000-yard freestyle, 50-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard breaststroke events. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Hazebroek finished with a time of 10:24.12, breaking an 11-year team record and 13-year pool record. Engler's day started with the 100-yard backstroke, winning the event in 1:06.66, a pool record for Koehler Fieldhouse. She capped it off by completing the 50-yard breaststroke time trial in 30.12, also setting program and pool records.
- The Warriors added a handful of PSAC qualifiers as well during the dual, with Ava Palochik hitting the qualifying mark in the 50-yard freestyle. In the time trial, she clocked in with a time of 24.92.
- Three other swimmers who have already registered PSAC qualifying times added additional entries, as Engler and Kennedy Leveto finished with times of 2:32.87 and 2:33.52 in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Anna Stauffer qualified in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.48.
- Across the rest of the day, ESU picked up an additional seven event wins. The Warriors started with the 200-yard medley relay, with Chelsea Chiu, Engler, Mikayla Potts, and Vera Renshof finishing in 1:51.05.
- Renshof took an event off before swimming again in the 200-yard freestyle, winning the race with a time of 1:58.00.
- Stauffer got the next win for the Warriors, coming in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 25.14.
- Renshof picked up her third win of the day in the 100-yard freestyle after finishing with a time of 54.41.
- In the same race Stauffer picked up a PSAC qualifying time, Hazebroek also won with a time of 5:17.13.
- Potts picked up an individual win in the 100-yard butterfly, ending with a 1:01.81 time.
- In the final event of the dual, the Warriors took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Chiu, Stauffer, Hazebroek, and Renshof took the crown with a time of 1:41.36, giving ESU the lead right at the end.
UP NEXT
The Warriors improved to 2-3 on the season and have one last competition this fall before winter break, as they'll travel to Lancaster, Pa. for the Franklin and Marshall Invite from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23.
