PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Hosts Bloomsburg for Tuesday Matchup

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The ESU women's basketball team hosts Bloomsburg for a midweek matchup at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Koehler Fieldhouse. This game kicks off a three-game week, with road matchups at Mansfield on Thursday and Shippensburg on Saturday.

EAST STROUDSBURG NOTES  

  • The ESU women's basketball team hosts Bloomsburg for a midweek matchup at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Koehler Fieldhouse. This game kicks off a three-game week, with road matchups at Mansfield on Thursday and Shippensburg on Saturday.
  • The Warriors came back from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Shepherd 74-67, marking ESU's second win this season after trailing at the half. Brie Droege recorded a season-high 26 points, grabbed five rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Brooke Droege followed with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists and steals apiece. Lacie Kringe rounded out the top scorers with 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and contributed a team-high six assists. Caitlin Marten posted nine points, a career-high 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. 
  • Brooke Droege has ESU's lone PSAC East Athlete of the Week award so far this season, winning the honor on Nov. 18. She totaled 35 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals, and three blocks across two games.  
  • Consecutive starters for the Warriors have been Lacie KringeAvery WhiteBrooke DroegeBrie Droege, and Caitlin Marten.  With this lineup, the Warriors have gone 8-4.
  • The Warriors average 65.1 PPG, 37.5 RPG, 15.6 APG, 11.0 SPG, and have shot 39.6% from the field.  
  • Against PSAC opponents the Warriors average 68.0 PPG, 35.6 RPG, 15.7 APG, 10.4 SPG, and have shot 41.8% from the field.
  • Despite ranking 11th in the conference in scoring offense, the Warriors sit fourth in scoring defense, holding opponents to 62.1 points per game. 
  • The Warriors are 4-2 at home and remain undefeated when leading at halftime.

  • Brie paces the Warriors with 14.7 points per game and has notched seven games of 15 or more points. This past week she has recorded 20+ point performances against both Millersville and Shepherd. Her performance against Shepherd pushed her past 500 career points, as she now has 516.
  • Brie has been an efficient scorer for the Warriors, making 48.3% of her shot attempts from the field. That figure is the seventh-best in the conference. 
  • Brooke is the other Warrior who is averaging above 10.0 PPG, putting up 12.0 PPG and has recorded four games with 15+ points.
  • The Warriors are third in the PSAC in turnover margin (4.2) and fifth in steals per game (11.0). Jess Devine leads ESU in steals per game, averaging 2.5, the eighth-most in the PSAC. 
  • Kringe leads the Warriors in rebounding, grabbing 5.1 boards per game. ESU has four others — Brooke, Brie, and Marten — all averaging 4.0 RPG or more.  Brooke leads defensively with 3.5 per contest.
  • Kringe and White rank 10th and 11th respectively in the conference in assists per game. 

BLOOMSBURG NOTES

  • The Huskies enter the contest with a 7-6 overall record and 3-3 conference record.
  • Bloomsburg is on a one game win streak, most recently defeating the Shippensburg Raiders on Jan. 7 by 31 points, 76-45.
  • The Huskies average 59.0 PPG, 35.5 RPG, 14.8 APG, 6.5 SPG, and have shot 40.4% from the field.
  • The leading scorer for Bloomsburg is Alison Hatajik, she averages 11.8 PPG and has recorded four 15+ point performances. Against Shippensburg she posted 19 points in 26 minutes, grabbed seven rebounds, one steal, and posted two blocks. Hatajik also leads the team with 7.5 RPG and in FG percentage (.568) with 67 makes.
  • Kelly Leszcynski leads the Huskies in steals (25), assists (61), and ranks second with 8.5 PPG. She leads the conference with 4.7 APG and has recorded seven games with five or more assists.
  • Bloomsburg's scoring offense ranks 16th in the league, but is fourth in scoring defense, limiting their opponents to 61.2 PPG.
  • Consecutive starters for the Huskies have been Hatajik, Leszcynski, Maddie LaFrance, and Ava Stevenson.
