Four Warriors Selected for ITA Regional Championships

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Four players of the ESU women's tennis team have been selected to represent the program in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Championships in both singles and doubles play this weekend.

Lea Stefanovic enters singles competition facing Patricia Castejon of Frostburg State in the first round. Although the Warriors went against the Bobcats last season, this will be the first time the two players will be directly competing with each other. Stefanovic holds a 3-2 singles record in the fall season and is bringing momentum into the match as she's won her last two matches with the latest going 6-1 in both sets.

Also competing in singles for ESU is Ariel Kelsick. She is matched up against Ana Musulin from Charleston. Kelsick is also 3-2, but even in the losses, Kelsick has put up a fight all season, taking at least three games in each set. Her last singles victory came in the Drew match, claiming both sets 6-0 and 6-1.

Jenna Kastell is the last singles competitor for the Warriors, coming in as the No. 1 seed of the B Draw. She's facing Izabelle Heacox of California (Pa.) in the first round. So far on the season, Kastell has gone 4-2. After back-to-back losses, she's rebounded with two straight wins, not allowing more than two games to be taken in any set of either match.

Kastell and Kelsick were also selected to compete in doubles play. They're going against the Slippery Rock duo of Noemi Andreica Gordan and Sophia van der Berg. The two have lost just one match this season and enter the tournament with four consecutive wins. In that stretch, they held each opponent to under four games with a season-best 6-1 win against Post.

The other team competing for ESU is the duo of Stefanovic and Elessa Jacobs. They're facing Kutztown's Anastassiya Kim and Isabela De Nadai in the first round. Kim and De Nadai were the team that handed Stefanovic and Jacobs their first loss of the season in a close 7-5 contest at the Bloomsburg Flighted Tournament. Since that match, the two have won five straight with three of those holding their opponents to two games or less.

The tournament is set to begin competition on Saturday, Oct. 17, and continue through Tuesday at Bloomsburg University's Reese Tennis Center.
