EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — In its final non-conference game of the regular season, the ESU field hockey team recorded its second consecutive shutout in a 7-0 win over Molloy.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors wasted no time getting to work, as fifth-year midfielder
Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla opened the scoring. On the game's first penalty corner, junior defender
Megan Rafter swept in the pass to Rivera-Lagalla at the top of the circle. ESU's captain took one touch and fired it into traffic, as it found the back of the net 2:12 into the game.
ESU tallied a pair of goals, one each, in the final minute of the first quarter and opening 60 seconds of the second quarter. Sophomore forward
Lisa Pasman was stationed on the right post on another corner, as junior midfielder
Maddie Moline took the pass off a penalty corner. Moline drifted right, sending a shot towards the goal that Pasman redirected in. 39 seconds into the next period, freshman midfielder
Sophia Fox intercepted a pass on the right side of the field. She started a quick counterattack by centering Rivera-Lagalla in the middle of the field outside the circle. Once Rivera-Lagalla gained the zone, she buried a shot into the upper half of the net to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
The Warriors added two more goals before the midway break, as Pasman got her second of the game and Rafter tallied a goal. Pasman scored a goal similar to her first one, this time redirecting a point shot from junior forward
Sydney Frantz with nine minutes remaining in the half. In the final two minutes of the frame, ESU converted on another penalty corner. Rafter knocked down a point shot on a deflection attempt, but was able to corral the rebound before a Lions defender could gain possession. She was able to score from the doorstep, putting the Warriors up 5-0.
ESU used its full roster against the Lions, with both goals in the second half coming from non-starters. In the final seconds of the third quarter, the Warriors got their last goal off a corner of the contest. Frantz lost possession momentarily outside the circle, but regained it on entry. She had enough space to take a shot and scored three seconds before the horn. The last tally came from sophomore forward
Nicole Conklin. As freshman forward
Marley Dutch settled a pass outside the circle from the middle of the field, Conklin kept running down the right side. Dutch found her, as Conklin beat the Lions' goalkeeper five-hole to give the Warriors their seventh goal.
