BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team opened its road stretch with a five-set victory over Bloomsburg Friday evening. Set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 14-25, and 15-11.
Jadyn Orava led the floor with 21 kills and seven service aces. Her seven service aces are tied for third-most in a single match in program history. Harry Berry contributed nine kills and a team-high seven total blocks. Rylee Ruggiero added eight kills and four blocks, while Kailynn Dupre finished with four blocks.
Set 1: The teams traded points early, with neither side building a lead of more than two until a block by Ruggiero and Berry gave ESU a 12-9 advantage. Orava followed with a kill and a service ace to push the Warriors ahead 14-9. A later block by Kyra Bishop and Berry extended the lead to 20-13. Bloomsburg responded with a brief 3-0 run, but ESU answered with three consecutive points of its own. The Warriors took the first set, 25-17, after Berry recorded her fourth kill and third assisted block.
Set 2: Bloomsburg held the early lead until the Warriors used a 4-0 run to take an 8-7 advantage. The Huskies responded with their own 4-0 run to regain the lead at 11-8. ESU tied the set at 14-14 following a service ace by Allison Flynn and a Bloomsburg error. The Huskies then used a 6-1 run to extend their lead to 20-15. Consecutive kills by Bishop and Orava pulled the Warriors within two at 22-20, but Bloomsburg took the second set, 25-21.
Set 3: The teams remained within two points of each other until ESU used a 4-0 run to take a 20-15 lead, highlighted by consecutive service aces from Orava. The Huskies responded with a 6-1 run to tie the set at 23-23, but back-to-back kills by Orava gave the Warriors the third set, 25-23.
Set 4: The Warriors recorded just three kills in the set as the Huskies used runs of 6-0 and 4-0 to build a 15-4 lead. Consecutive attacking errors by Bloomsburg brought ESU within nine at 15-6. A kill by Orava and a service ace from Georgia Stevens ended another Huskies run, making the score 19-9. Consecutive blocks then sparked a 4-0 run by the Warriors, but a service error gave Bloomsburg the fourth set, 25-14.
Set 5: Bloomsburg opened the set with an early 4-1 lead before the Warriors used a 4-0 run to take a 5-4 advantage. ESU followed with a 5-1 run to extend its lead to 13-9, highlighted by kills from Orava and Dupre and a block by Kuhlman and Dupre. The Huskies added two more kills, but Orava recorded her 21st kill of the match to give the Warriors the fifth set, 15-11, and secure the match victory.
