WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. — The ESU women's wrestling qualified five athletes for the NCAA National Championships at the Region II Championships, with
Tiffani Baublitz and
Olivia Klein winning their brackets for automatic bids.
NOTABLES
- ESU's two regional champions, Baublitz and Klein, both had different paths to their titles in their respective weight brackets. At 160 pounds, Baublitz came in as the one seed, winning first two matches by fall and advancing to the finals by technical fall. There, she defeated Lock Haven's Presley McCandlish by a 5-0 decision. For Klein, she entered the tournament as the third seed at 103 pounds, defeating the top two seeds in her run. She pinned Arcadia's Samantha Larkin in her first match, and clinched a spot in the finals after pinning Eastern's Jesenia Camargo. In her final match, she defeated Madeline Gavares from Ursinus by technical fall to win the crown.
- Two Warriors finished as the runners-up in their brackets, with Teegan Sibble at 110 pounds and Ragan Retell at 138 pounds. Sibble went 2-0 to make it to the finals, winning by technical fall and pinning Ursinus' Olivia Guy in the semifinals, but fell by technical fall in the last match. Retell made it through her first two matches quickly with a fall and technical fall each in under two minutes, making the finals with an 8-4 decision win over Maura White from York. After, she was defeated by technical fall.
- Selina Moore rebounded after a loss in her second match of the tournament to win third place and clinch a ticket to Nationals. Moore pinned her first opponent before being pinned herself, but went on to win her next three matches all via fall to finish strong.
- Gianna Amendola placed sixth for ESU. Amendola won her first two matches in the consolation bracket to earn a spot in the fifth-place match, but lost by technical fall there.
