CHESTERTOWN, Md. – ESU women's tennis showed out in singles competition to take the win, 5-2, over Washington College in its first dual of the spring season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In doubles play, Ariel Kelsick and Jenna Kastell dropped the first match, which was answered by a win from Theresa Bauer and Lea Stefanovic. In the determining match, Nia Vivas Montoya and Bega Gotor forced a tiebreaker, but ultimately fell just short, missing out on the doubles point.
Singles competition is where the Warriors found their success. Kelsick battled back from being down to get into the extra set and the win. Audrey Conover went into an extra game in her first set, coming out on top 7-5 while picking up the win in the next set to win her match. Kastell pulled off the sweep, making quick work of her opponent. What clinched the win for ESU was Stefanovic holding strong through a match lasting two hours and 25 minutes where, despite dropping the second set, she was able to battle through the third and earn the 11-9 win, securing the fourth point. Alice Ehrenlechner carried this excitement with a sweep of her own. Bauer wasn't as fortunate, though fighting hard to keep the contest close, she ultimately fell just short in both sets.
This win puts the Warriors at a 4-3 record as the spring season gets underway. They will continue their road stretch, travelling to Bethlehem, Pa. for a Sunday afternoon dual against Moravian.
