PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Travels to Shepherd for Saturday Matchup

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team will travel to Shepherdstown to face the Shepherd Rams on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m.

EAST STROUDSBURG NOTES 

  • The Warriors travel to Shepherdstown to face the Shepherd Rams on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m. 
  • The ESU women's basketball team enters the matchup 14-8 overall and 9-6 in conference action.    
  • Brooke Droege has ESU's lone PSAC East Athlete of the Week award so far this season, winning the honor on Nov. 18. She totaled 35 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals, and three blocks across two games.        
  • Consecutive starters for the Warriors have been Lacie Kringe, Avery White, Brie Droege, and Caitlin Marten.   
  • The Warriors average 65.5 PPG, 37.3 RPG, 14.5 APG, 10.6 SPG, and have shot 40.1% from the field.        
  • Against PSAC opponents, the Warriors average 67.0 PPG, 36.3 RPG, 14.1 APG, 10.2 SPG, and have shot 41.3% from the field.      
  • The Warriors now rank ninth in the conference in scoring offense and are sixth in scoring defense, holding opponents to 62.0 points per game.       
  • 14 of ESU's 22 games have been decided by 10 points or fewer, with the Warriors owning an 9-5 edge in those contests.       
  • The Warriors are most productive after halftime, averaging 34.5 points in the second half versus 30.7 in the opening half.      
  • Opponent production is the highest in the fourth quarter, as the Warriors give up 17.1 PPG in the final quarter. 
  • Brie paces the Warriors with 14.8 points per game, ranking her 11th in the PSAC in PPG. She recorded her third career double-double against West Chester with a season high of 27 points and a career high of 12 rebounds.  
  • Brie has led the team in scoring 11 times this season and five times in rebounds. 
  • Brie has been an efficient scorer for the Warriors, making 45.6% of her shot attempts from the field. That figure is the ninth best in the conference. She also ranks fourth in free throw percentage, making 49 of 55 attempts.    
  • The Warriors are fourth in the PSAC in turnover margin (3.64) and fifth in steals per game (10.64). Jess Devine leads ESU in steals per game, averaging 2.2, the 10th-most in the PSAC.       
  • Brie and Marten average above 5.0 rebounds per game. Brie leads with 5.5 RPG and Marten follows with 5.2 RPG, while Brie ranks 24th in the league. 
  • Avery White has led the Warriors in scoring in three of the last four games, totaling 19 points twice and 22 points once. 
  • Kringe and White rank 11th and 15th respectively in the conference in assists per game, while Jess Devine ranks 20th with 2.8 APG. 
  • The Warriors surpassed 80 points in Saturday's win over Millersville, their highest scoring performance this season.  
  • ESU shot 50.9% from the field against Bloomsburg, their highest field-goal percentage of the season. 

SHEPHERD NOTES     

  • The Rams enter the contest with a 6-13 overall record and 4-10 conference record. 
  • Shepherd is on a one-game win streak, most recently defeating the Shippensburg Raiders on Feb. 2, 72-57.  
  • The Rams average 64.6 PPG, 34.8 RPG, 11.6 APG, 11.7 SPG, and have shot 38.2% from the field. 
  • The leading scorer for Shepherd is Lamaria Estridge, she averages 16.7 PPG and has recorded 16 performances above 15 points. She ranks fourth in the PSAC in PPG and 11th in field goal percentage (44.1). 
  • Estridge also leads the team in rebounds per game (6.0) and has posted five or more in 15 games. Jenna Liska ranks second on the team in rebounds per game (5.2). 
  • Estridge has been named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week twice this season.  
  • Shepherd has three players that have recorded 30 steals each. Estridge and Samiyah Nasir lead the team with 33 each, while Kara Wehner has recorded 31. 
  • Wehner leads the team with 50 assists and ranks ninth in the PSAC, averaging 3.1 per game. She also ranks 18th in the PSAC in points per game (13.8) and has posted six consecutive double-digit scoring games. 
  • Shepherd's scoring offense ranks 11th in the league, and is 10th in scoring defense, limiting their opponents to 67.2 PPG. 
  • The Rams rank last in the conference in rebound margin (-7.5). 
  • Shepherd averages 30.3 points through the first half and 34.0 points in the second half. 
  • Consecutive starters for the Rams have been Estridge, Trinity Turner, Cassidy Rhodes, Wehner, and Nasir. 

SERIES HISTORY     

  • ESU is 8-3 all-time against Shepherd and is 4-1 when playing on the road. 
  • The Warriors have won four of the past five meetings against the Rams. 
  • The Warriors are 7-3 in the past 10 meetings and are on a three-game win streak. 
  • In their most recent matchup on Jan. 10, the Warriors completed a second half comeback to defeat the Shepherd Rams, 74-67. ESU outscored Shepherd 20-9 in the third quarter to get ahead by six points, 52-46. In the fourth quarter, ESU matched Shepherd's scoring, 22-21.
