Frantz Named ESU's First Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week of 2010 Season

EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior forward Jessica Frantz has been named the PSAC East Field Hockey Athlete of the Week after scoring five goals in a pair of wins to open the season for the Warriors over the weekend.

Frantz (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) is also ESU’s first Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week for the 2010 season and is one of 10 returning starters on a team that played in the NCAA Division II tournament last year.

Frantz had her second career hat trick in a 5-0 win at Merrimack on Saturday, and scored twice in the No. 5 Warriors’ 3-1 victory at No. 4 Stonehill on Sunday in a meeting of top-five teams in Division II.

She was a second team All-PSAC East selection in 2009 and had 14 goals and 10 assists. She was fifth in the PSAC and 11th in Division II in points per game, and third in the conference and fifth in the nation with 0.48 assists per game.

Frantz played her first two seasons at IUP and was a second team NFHCA All-American in 2008. She had 18 goals and 10 assists for the Crimson Hawks and is one of the top active scorers in Division II with 37 career goals and 20 assists.

ESU returns to action on Sunday with its home opener at Whitenight Field, hosting Adelphi at 1 p.m.
