Vavra Earns ESU Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week
EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior Sami Vavra has been named East Stroudsburg University’s Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week after winning the 50 free and 100 breast in the Warriors’ dual meet win over Ramapo on Saturday.
Vavra (Coaldale/Panther Valley), who set the school record in the 100 breast and just missed the 200 breast record last month at Grove City, also swam on the winning 200 medley relay in the dual with Ramapo.
She swam 1:10.03 in the 100 breast on Saturday and 1:10.52 to place second in a dual with C.W. Post on Wednesday. She posted a time of 26.19 to win the 50 free.
Vavra’s time of 1:07.22 in the 100 breast at Grove City on the first weekend of December broke the previous record of 1:07.48 set by Sarah Roscioli last year. She was just under fourth-tenths of a second off the 200 breast record with a time of 2:30.67.
Vavra also holds an ESU relay record as part of the 200 medley relay at last year’s PSAC Championships.
The Warriors are on the road for duals the next two weekends, traveling to Bloomsburg and Millersville, before hosting the ESU Invitational on February 4.
