Karen Strittmatter enters her fourth season as an assistant softball coach at East Stroudsburg University under head coach Jamie Wohlbach in 2018-19.
The Warriors have had seven All-PSAC East selections in Strittmatter’s first three years at ESU, including Mary Wallick (3B) and Kaitlyn Caleen (At-Large/C) in 2018. Wallick additionally became the first ESU player in six years to earn NFCA First Team All-Atlantic Region accolades as a junior in 2017.
ESU has improved its PSAC East record by two games in each of the past two seasons. The Warriors have led the PSAC in stolen bases per game in all three seasons under Strittmatter, and the team’s .301 batting average in 2018 was the second highest single-season mark in program history.
Strittmatter was previously head coach at Union County College (N.J.) in 2014 and 2015 following stints at the University of the Sciences (2012-14) and Bergen Community College (2010-11).
She has experience as a Division I assistant under Wohlbach at Iona College (2009-10), where she helped the Gaels win the MAAC conference championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Strittmatter has also been assistant coach at Felician College (2009), head coach at Midland Park High School (N.J.) (2006-08) and coach of the 18U Gold team for North Jersey Rangers (1996-2012).
Collegiately, Strittmatter attended Seton Hall University, where she was first team all-league and all-region as a pitcher and shortstop in 1981 and 1982. She previously competed at Bergen Community College, earning first team All-America honors as a pitcher in 1980. She was all-region in both 1979 and 1980 and reached the regional finals in 1979.
She holds a bachelor's degree in Computer and Information Science from Seton Hall (1982) and an associate's degree in Business Retail Management from Bergen Community College (1980).
