Lisa Pizzuto

Lisa Pizzuto enters her 22nd season as head coach of the Warriors' women's swimming program in 2015-16.

She led her team to six consecutive winning seasons in dual action from 2001-02 through 2006-07, and has compiled a 97-79 dual record since ESU's swimming program was returned to varsity status in 1995.

Pizzuto’s swimmers have set 16 individual records and all five relay records during her time at ESU.

ESU's most recent record-setting swimmer is Ashleigh Podhayny, who returns for her senior year in 2015-16. She set records in the 100 and 200 back and 200 and 400 IM in her first season at ESU in 2015.

Allison Schafer set five school records as a senior in 2014 (200, 500, 1000 and 1650 free; 200 fly).

Christine Swiker graduated with three individual records (200 fly; 200 and 400 IM) and was ESU's Women's Senior Athlete of the Year in 2010.

Natalie Weingartner set all three records in the back stroke, set in 2003 and 2004, and held the 50 back record until 2014. Sarah Roscioli left with all three records in the breast stroke in 2011, which were all subsequently lowered during the 2013 season.

Other Warriors with records include Sami Vavra (50 and 100 breast; 100 IM), Karoline Vavra (100 free); Kimberly Lawson (100 fly) and Sophie Coy (200 breast).

School relay records have fallen annually at the PSAC Championships. All five records were broken in 2012, with four reset in 2013. The most recent relay record to fall is the 800 free relay, which was re-established in 2014.

ESU has finished ninth in the PSAC for three straight years (2013-15), its best showings since placing sixth in 2001 and 2002.

Top individual finishers include Swiker (4th in 400 IM, 2009), Weingartner (3rd in 100 back, 2004) and Donna Gebhard (4th in 50 free, 2001).

Before coming to ESU, Pizzuto was the assistant coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at her alma mater, Union College, in 1993-94.

She helped both teams to top 10 finishes in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. She also spent one year as an assistant coach at the University of Albany following graduation.

A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Pizzuto was a four-year swimmer at Union where she competed in butterfly, backstroke and distance freestyle events.

She was a captain of the Dutchwomen's 1990 team which won the New York state title.

Pizzuto graduated from Union in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Studio Art from Albany in 1992.

She has completed course work for a Masters of Sport Science in Sport Coaching from the United States Sport Academy.
