Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener 89-82 vs. Holy Family

BOWIE, Md. - Sophomore guard Andy Heimbach was 7-for-9 from the three-point line and scored 25 points, but Holy Family got 29 points from Michael Sturns and 28 from Ryan Lancaster and beat East Stroudsburg University 89-82 in the first round of the Bowie State Classic on Friday night.

Holy Family led 48-43 at halftime before ESU pulled within one with the first four points of the second half. The Tigers responded with a 14-2 run to take a 63-49 advantage, and maintained a double figure lead until the final three minutes of the game.

Heimbach is the sixth player in school history to make at least seven three-pointers in a game. The most recent was Dave Fedorka, who made seven against California (Pa.) in 2003.

Senior forward Channon Easley scored 15 points, sophomore guard Dawud Lyons had 14 and junior forward Chris Bach added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Warriors. Junior guard Pat Fleury had eight points, seven rebounds and eight assists but also committed eight of ESU's 25 turnovers.

ESU will play in the consolation game on Saturday at 2 p.m. against either Bowie State or Cheyney.
