BOWIE, Md. - Cheyney used a 20-4 run early in the second half to pull away from East Stroudsburg University for an 83-73 win in the consolation round of the Bowie State Bulldogs Classic.
ESU led 42-39 with 17:11 left when the Wolves embarked on their run over the next seven minutes and matched their biggest advantage of the game with a 13-point lead with 10:41 remaining.
Tyrone Smith had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Dawud Morris scored 21 for Cheyney, which lost 75-53 to Bowie State in the first round on Friday night.
Sophomore guard Dawud Lyons led the Warriors with 19 points, sophomore guard Andy Heimbach had 18 and senior forward Channon Easley scored 17 points and added four blocks.
Heimbach was named to the All-Tournament team, along with Carlos Williams (MVP) and Joshua Johnson of Bowie State and Michael Sturns and Ryan Lancaster of Holy Family. Heimbach made 4-of-7 three-pointers Saturday after a 7-for-9 performance from long distance en route to 25 points on Friday night.
ESU will look for its first win of the season in the home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
