LOCK HAVEN - Junior forward Chris Bach had 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots to lead East Stroudsburg University to its first win of the season with a 69-59 victory at Lock Haven on Saturday.
ESU started slowly, making just two of its first 18 shots, and trailed 14-6 at the 12:00 mark in the first half. Back-to-back baskets by senior forward Channon Easley jumpstarted the offense, and ESU took its first lead of the game (17-16) on a layup by junior guard Pat Fleury with 7:32 left.
Freshman guard Mike DeMarco scored seven of the final 13 points of the half for the Warriors, including a shot to beat the buzzer at the end of the period, and ESU closed the first half on a 30-9 run to take a 36-23 lead into the locker room.
ESU led comfortably throughout the second half, with the lead reaching as many as 24 points with six minutes to go. The Warriors outscored Lock Haven 58-26 over a 24-minute stretch in the middle of the game, and the final 10-point margin represented ESU's smallest lead of the second half.
Sophomore guards Andy Heimbach and Dawud Lyons scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Easley and Fleury both scored nine points, and Fleury had six steals to help contribute to Lock Haven's 25 turnovers in the contest.
Billy Arre, last year's PSAC West Athlete of the Year, led Lock Haven with 25 points.
ESU will take on Shippensburg in another PSAC crossover match-up on Sunday at 3 p.m.
