Easley Has Career Night in 72-67 Win over Edinboro

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Channon Easley tied his career-highs with 21 points and 15 rebounds to power East Stroudsburg University to its fifth straight win with a 72-67 victory over Edinboro on Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Easley was 10-of-22 from the field and had six of his 15 rebounds on the offensive end. He also set season-highs with six blocked shots and two steals.

Senior forward Josh Wentz was 5-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-4 from the three-point line and 4-of-4 at the foul line on his way to a season-high 17 points. Sophomore guard Andy Heimbach scored 12 points and junior guard Pat Fleury had a season-best 10 points to go with six assists.

Edinboro (5-3) scored 10 of the first 12 points and led 19-7 six minutes into the game, but the Warriors (5-3) chipped into the lead and eventually had a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game on a layup by Heimbach with five minutes to go in the first half. Heimbach and Wentz both connected from long range during the spurt.

ESU led 34-33 at halftime after Easley blocked a shot at the buzzer, and the first five minutes of the second half featured four ties and three lead changes before Edinboro opened up a 50-44 advantage with 12:14 left.

Wentz scored five points in a 7-0 run that put ESU back on top, and Fleury hit a three-pointer at the end of the shot clock to give ESU a 54-52 advantage with 9:37 remaining.

Easley and Wentz combined to score 11 of the team's next 13 points and ESU led 67-61 with 2:10 left on the clock. The Warriors made five of their final six free throws to put the game away.

Joseph Jones led Edinboro with 20 points and Devon Knight and Gilmore Cummings had 15 each for the Fighting Scots. Ryan McLemore, the PSAC's leading rebounder and shot blocker, had nine boards and four blocked shots but was limited to 24 minutes due to foul trouble.

The Warriors will look for their sixth straight win on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. vs. Slippery Rock.
