ESU Men's Basketball Wins First Round Game 85-48 over Wilberforce

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University opened the game with a 16-2 run and led comfortably the rest of the way for an 85-48 win over Wilberforce in the first round of the 43rd Annual ESU Basketball Tournament on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Sophomore guard Andy Heimbach had 19 points, including 14 in the first half, to lead four ESU players in double figures. Heimbach also had a career-high five steals.

Senior forward Josh Wentz had 15 points and senior forward Channon Easley and sophomore forward Aaron Pinckney scored 11 points each for the Warriors.

Heimbach had eight points in the Warriors' opening run, and ESU led 24-4 midway through the first half. The lead reached as many as 28 points in the opening 20 minutes when Wentz hit the last of his three first-half three-pointers with 3:20 left in the opening period.

The lead allowed ESU head coach Jeff Wilson to go to his bench throughout the second half. Pinckney's 11 points were a career-high, and freshman guards Daniel DeSousa and Mike Tobin both reached season bests with seven points each. Pinckney also added eight rebounds for ESU.

The Warriors advance to play Queens College in the championship game on Saturday night at 8 p.m. The Knights earned their first win of the season with a 77-75 victory over UDC earlier in the day.

Khaleef Allicott scored the first 20 points of the game for Queens and finished with 26, while Mike Liander had 25 points and 12 rebounds. Frank Peterson and Justin Walker both scored 16 points to lead UDC.
