OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Junior forwards Jason Shegda and Kevin Holmes scored goals less than a minute apart early in the second half to lift East Stroudsburg University to a 2-0 victory over NYIT in the men's soccer season opener on Thursday afternoon.

Shegda broke a scoreless tie 15 minutes into the second half, and assisted on Holmes' goal just 52 seconds later to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Holmes led the PSAC with 16 goals last season to earn conference Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore Shane McFarlane was credited with the assist on Shegda's goal.

Sophomore Larry Pokrywa, who led the conference in goals against average and save percentage in relief of starter Dan Frick as a freshman, made four saves to post the fifth shutout of his career. Pokrywa has a scoreless streak of 381:17 dating to his final four games last season.

ESU will travel to Slippery Rock for the PSAC opener on Sunday. The men will take on the Rock at 12 p.m., with the women's game (non-conference) to follow at 2 p.m.
