EAST STROUDSBURG - No. 12 East Stroudsburg University took a leg up in the PSAC men's soccer standings with a 3-1 victory over Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Both teams entered with identical 6-1 PSAC records after playing four times last season, including ESU's 1-0 overtime victory to decide the PSAC championship. The Warriors, ranked No. 2 in the Northeast Region, improve to 9-1 overall at the halfway point of the conference schedule.

Junior forward Jason Shegda gave ESU the lead 4:54 into the match on an assist from sophomore Jason Rudder. Lock Haven had an opportunity to tie the game five minutes later, but Paul Huckett put a penalty kick off the crossbar and the Warriors led 1-0 at the half.

Phil Liversedge was sent off in the 59th minute after a hard tackle which forced Lock Haven to play a man down the remainder of the match, and ESU capitalized with a pair of goals to put the game away.

Senior Dennis Maldonado added what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 69th minute with his first goal of the season, and junior Roshane Ellison put the Warriors ahead 3-0 in the 77th minute. Huckett finally put the Bald Eagles on the board with 9:03 left in regulation.

Sophomore goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa made five saves for ESU, while Chad Feerar had three saves for Lock Haven.

ESU will open the second half of PSAC play on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Bloomsburg.
