LOCK HAVEN - Junior quarterback Tim Roken threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns, and tailbacks Brant Quick and Joe Partridge combined for 210 yards and three scores to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 58-13 win on Saturday night at Lock Haven.
Roken threw a pair of 50-yard touchdown passes in his first career start, hitting Drew Stem with a 51-yard bomb in the first quarter and Jeff Giglio for a 52-yard score in the second quarter. He was 8-for-17 for 165 yards in the opening half, and was 17-for-31 passing in the game.
Quick earned his second straight start and carried 22 times for 115 yards. He opened the scoring with a six-yard run with 9:36 left in the first quarter, and rolled up 102 yards in the first half. Partridge took over midway through the third quarter and ran 11 times for 95 yards in his first action of the season. He found the end zone on scoring plays of one and 25 yards in the third quarter.
Lock Haven responded to ESU's early score with a one-yard run by quarterback Ilio DiPaolo to make it 7-7 with 6:22 left in the first, but the Warriors reclaimed the lead on the pass from Roken to Stem with 4:37 remaining in the quarter.
ESU stretched the lead to 20-7 on a fumble recovery in the end zone by center Michael Parshley which accounted for Roken's second touchdown pass of the game. Roken hit Quick out of the backfield for a gain of 16 yards to the one, before he fumbled and Parshley fell on the ball in the end zone.
The PAT by Greg Knauss hit the upright, but Knauss hit a 20-yard field goal on the next possession to make the score 23-7. Lock Haven followed with a three-yard touchdown run by Ibrahim Smith to cut the lead to 23-13, as the extra point was once again no good.
Giglio's first career catch and touchdown made the halftime score 30-13, and the Warriors scored four second half touchdowns to pull away. ESU finished the game scoring the final 35 points.
Dave Lotier had an interception and 42-yard return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter to extend the lead to 44-13, and Roken finished the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Doug Ogden with 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Ogden was the Warriors leading receiver with five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown, while Chris Hawkins caught seven passes for 82 yards for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles threw four interceptions, two each by DiPaolo and Jason Eby, and DiPaolo was the leading rusher with 28 yards.
Senior linebacker Jayson Frank led the Warriors with eight tackles and one of ESU's three sacks. Lotier also had a sack on the drive that he finished with the interception return for a touchdown and now has six career interceptions.
David Pacchioni, Scott Christy and Kevin Schafer also had interceptions for the Warriors.
ESU will face IUP in its home opener next Saturday, Sept. 15 at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. in the first home night game in school history.
